Denim on Denim on Denim

First of all, before you all react., I am no stranger to the fact that there is such a thing as too much denim. For this outfit, I do wish I committed no such crime because I really did try my best to use denim as I much as I could but hopefully without bordering on being a bad Western cowboy bordering on Marlboro Country ensemble. As such, I came up with some rules to abide by when you want to tackle that double denim issue yourself:

1. Do wear different denim washes.

Wearing different washes of denim will help create a contrast of having too much denim-ness in the look. In my case, I chose a darker wash with my skirt and had a much lighter shade of blue as my top.

2. Keep it simple.

Keep all other accessories neutral. In my case, I used a white Hermes Birkin and a pair of white heels with some denim treatment but not to the point it is overwhelming.

 3. Choose one denim piece you want to highlight.

In my case, it is the distressed midi denim skirt. So I kept everything else simple (yes, even the denim blouse) so as to highlight that skirt, which is actually what I wanted to be the focal point of my outfit.

4. Break up the denim with prints.

In this outfit, the denim blouse I am wearing actually has a vertical lined print running through it. It makes the outfit less monotonous.

5. Distress.

Denim on denim works best with distressed denim (read: acid washed, ripped, deconstructed) so let it rip.

IMG_7217I do hope that these tips helped out and hope you get to try this out for yourself! I do know my posts have been less personal lately but I’ll try to inject some of my own flair in the next posts… Please bear with me. x
