Emotions in Check

Sun Protection Factor.Hat: Zara | Top and Skirt: Glitterati | Shoes: Payless | Purse: Bottega Venetta | Accessories: Cultus Chichi | Sunnies: Mango | Bandeau: La Senza
Beach bound. I’ve been nagging about how much I miss the beach and I finally (finally!) got a beach trip (even for just a day) the other day and I was basically half asleep as I planned this outfit. Not wanting to get dark, I decided to make use of my woven floppy hat as coverage from the harsh rays of the sun. I’ve always been a beach baby…always was, always will be, which is why it is essential I had a sun hat so as not to burn

I was quite lazy to dress up for the beach as we left very very early so I went for the basics. I used a semi sheer coverup as a blouse, tied it around my wait and layered that over a black bandeau. I wore it with a brown maxi skirt, wedged heels and my new cateye Mango sunnies and I was incognito and ready to hit the sun, sand and sea.I had a great time! And cant wait to max the beach out for whatever is left for summer! More photos of my beach escape at the next post!

YLEBIBLE.PH Blogger Challenge: Maxi Skirts
Joanna Ladrido

Blog: Only The Marvelous

What made you try this trend?
I always loved maxi skirts, its ability to lengthen and make your body seem taller. Also, it’s a great alternative to trousers and jeans on days you want to be conservative.

How do you build your outfit around it?
The highlight of the outfit was this brightly hued, graffiti print, semi-sheer Moonshine skirt, which I paired with a basic tank top, as the cut was high-waist. The skirt had a lot of loud vibrant colors so I kept my top basic. I matched it with a patent neon purse from SM and tassel necklaces from +RUCKUS for a more bohemian look.

How do you style it to make the look your own?
Perfectly matched accessories! I am big into statement necklaces right now and the one I am wearing just worked perfectly with the look.

How do you balance your look to avoid making it look over-the-top?
Since my skirt was loud, I toned it down with a simple basic tank top in black. Aside from matching accessories and an equally bright purse, I kept everything else bare and simple.

How do you accessorize the maxi skirt trend?
The trick is balance. Pick out the focal point, if you want your top to be the accent, go for a simpler maxi skirt. If you want your maxi skirt to stand out, wear it with a basic top. Pick out accessories, which will highlight rather than contrast with the best aspects of the look.

Can you give tips on how to wear this trend?
Choose the right length, so you don’t trip on your hem or have to hold it up when walking. Also, always pick a simple and basic top, so as not to make the skirt all dressed up and formal especially when you’re wearing it for casual days.

How would you wear it during the day, night, to the beach, to a party, to work, etc.?
The day: I’d choose light-hued tones and a simple tank top.
For night or to a party: probably a skirt in black with studs and leather for the more rocker, edgy look, I am quite known for.
To the beach: I’d pair it with a bikini top, like a bandeau or a triangle top.
To work: I’d choose a more conservative top, perhaps a sleeved basic shirt or a button down—Carolina Herrera style.

Joanna wore a Zara tank top, a printed maxi skirt from Moonshine paired with a necklace from +RUCKUS, a Parisian by SM Department Store clutch and wedges from Topshop.

Long Gone Lonesome Blues

Mad Men.
Top: Forever 21
Skirt: Vintage
Shoes: Nine West
Purse: Gucci
Shades: Aldo
Accessories: Forever21

I was feeling very ’50s this day so I decided to dress up all Mad Men and Pleasantville for a Manic Monday which started out with a routine weekly visit to the hospital… (Yes, I wore this to the hospital! I realize that when I am fretting over something or feel bad or am forced to do something, I compensate by dressing up…never down… for the occasion.) It’s one of those things where I think, since I have no choice but to do it, even if I do not want to, might as well dress up and go out all the way. Besides, maybe a pretty outfit might boost my mood and make me feel good somehow. (I’m superficial, whatever!)

The skirt was the main pretty piece in this look. I do not exactly remember which vintage store I got it from (Yes, every once in a while, I do adore vintage items too!) but the colors, the print and the pleats (not to mention the shape) is just so amazing. I realized that it went so perfectly with an old unworn Forever 21 blouse I’ve had for years and have long since forgotten about. Accessorized with a pair of sunnies (what’s a hospital visit without really big sunglasses right?–sorry, I am trying to be optimistic about this whole thing) and a simple pair of suede peep toe pumps circa 2006.

All I can say is the outfit worked! It did boost my mood a bit and I felt quite positive that day!
I even bought two new March 2011 magazines featuring two of the most in demand pop stars on the cover. I love March issue magazines as they are thick and very worth what I pay for it.
Who do you love more? It’s the battle of the magazine covers… Katy Perry for Elle U.S. and a pink haired Lady Gaga for Vogue U.S…. who rocked the cover better?

xx

Moonshine revellers.
Always one to be supportive of friends (and allies) in the industry, I came to support the Prive Event of my friends Audrey Ednacot and Kato Chua of Moonshine at Member’s Only. They launched their “Jet Set” collection with their 10 lovely muses all garbed in the finest from their up and coming Holiday 2010 line.

Since the event was quite dressy (attire was Cocktail chic), I went on to wear a black leather bustier from my brand with a mesh and jersey draped skirt also from Glitterati which we will both be launching for our up and coming Holiday collection. I was quite torn whether I was to wear my own Moonshine pcs. that I bought from them in support but I realized I didn’t want to risk running into someone in the exact same piece and end up in the “Who Wore It Better” portion of the evening. Thus, I opted to go for an original.
